Tail Blazers Red Deer opened in December 2005. Owner Aly Seymour had been looking at opportunites within the pet health industry for quite a while before she came across the Tail Blazers concept. Aly has a teaching certificate from St. John’s College, York, England where she majored in Rural Studies/Environmental Biology. “Returning to farming in 2001 took me full circle. My father was a sheep farmer, and now so am I. Apart from gardening and bird-watching, both of which I would do 24/7 if I could, farming is my passion. We feed everybody as naturally as we can, with no added antibiotics or hormones. So it only makes sense to feed and treat our pets the same way” says Aly. “It is remarkable the effect a proper diet can make to a pet. Every day we have returning customers with stories to back up the fact that a natural diet significantly improves an animal’s well-being. It is sad to see how far removed we have become from nature and the countryside, so my goal is to try and bridge that gap”. Aly says her job is to give new customers enough knowledge to make their own educated decisions about what is the best for their pet.
Karmon has been managing Tail Blazers for over 2 1/2 years, and has a wealth of knowledge regarding pet feeding. Karmon had a period of her young life when she “was forced to farm”! But during that time she learnt a lot about animal husbandry and care. With two young daughters Karmon takes a keen interest in healthy food and natural supplements. She is also excellent at customer service!
I grew up on a farm in Fairview, Alberta and have always had pets. My interest in animal care and nutrition has led me to pursue the career options in this field. I started by taking a work experience program at the local vet clinic, which I thoroughly enjoyed. After graduating high school, I moved to Red Deer and took my first year of Pre-Vet at Red Deer College. I am currently using my knowledge assisting customers at Tail Blazers and am continuing to learn as much as I can about animal nutrition whilst working toward my career goal of equine and canine chiropractic.
Aly and her staff encourage you to visit them at the store. Questions are welcomed and expected, and if they don’t know the answers they know how to get them. “We pride ourselves on our customer service - that’s one of the reasons we were chosen for the Red Deer Express’s Reader’s Choice Awards for 2008. Come by and see for yourself.”
